Engine, Transmission, and Performance of the All-new 2023 Dodge Hornet   

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine in Hornet GT models produces 265 horsepower and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Dodge claims that the Hornet’s all-wheel drive system, an optional feature, can propel the vehicle from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The R/T model is Dodge’s first plug-in hybrid, and it generates 285 horsepower thanks to a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that has been turbocharged and an electric motor working in tandem. The R/T receives a six-speed automatic instead of the GT’s nine-speed automatic, but all-wheel drive is still standard. 

Pulling both paddle shifters engages a PowerShot feature that temporarily allows the powertrain to increase output by 25 hp. According to Dodge, when the PowerShot mode is in action, the R/T PHEV can reach 60 mph in 6.1 seconds.
