There are three major causes for a stalled engine: A lack of fuel, a lack of air flow and improper ignition. Running out of fuel is one of the most common causes of engine stalling, but dirty fuel injectors or a plugged fuel filter can also be the culprit.
Your engine needs air to run properly as well. This air is received through the air intake, which also helps clean the air before it gets to the engine. This filter can be clogged due to dirt, pollen, leaves and other types of debris that can build up over time. Check your filter and make sure enough air is able to get into the engine.
After the fuel and air mix inside the combustion chamber, an ignition spark starts the engine. This spark requires very specific timing to get the engine started, so an issue with this process could also be to blame for a stalled engine.
